Pamela Gwyn Kripke is a journalist who has written for numerous magazines and newspapers during her twenty year career. Her features, essays and profiles have appeared in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Dallas Morning News, Elle, Seventeen, Redbook, Crain’s New York Business, Southern Accents, Metropolis, Child, American Baby and Parenting. She wrote a nationally syndicated newspaper column for Creators Syndicate and spent a year in Biloxi, Mississippi as a television reporter and anchor.
Ms. Kripke holds a BA in English from Brown University and a Master’s in Journalism from Medill, at Northwestern University.
A New Yorker, Ms. Kripke currently lives with her two daughters in Dallas, Texas, where she is a Contributing Editor for D Magazine, Contributing Writer for Modern Luxury Dallas and a contracted freelance reporter for The New York Times.
She has been a single mother since 2003.
Like A Single Mom 
I just wanted to leave a comment to thank you for your articulate response to Lisa Belkin’s piece in The Times this morning. As someone who struggled with infertility for years and was able to get pregnant only with ART and donor eggs, your piece really spoke to me – the feeling of seeing pregnant women and babies everywhere, the feeling of loving, and despising them and this, in particular —
“It is wrenching for women to have bodies that betray them. It is consuming. It affects how you think, how you view yourself, how you see the world.”
I am firmly convinced that the majority of people who oppose ART have never felt the very particular pain of being infertile.
Between people like Liza Mundy (who clearly does not get it, despite offering herself as an authority on the subject) and all of the bad publicity for ART generated by Nadya Suleman, we need more voices like yours out there.

Funny. I too (like Joanne above) wanted to write to tell you I enjoy your thoughtful responses to Lisa Belkin’s NYT’s blog Motherlode. Today’s subject (Married v. Single Moms) seemed to bring out the worst in people which makes it all the more refreshing to see a more thoughtful, reasoned response.
I’ll look for your comments on the Motherlode.

Pamela, You worte an article about me and my family for D.Magazine on education in Jan.2003. I just wanted to follow up with you . We moved west.. to Cedar Hill and have been doing fine . Miranda is a Jr and Mahogany is a Sophmore @ Cedar Hill High. Preston II is in the 8th an has excelled in his classes at Permenter . Pamela-your writing is extraordinary. It is great to see how life has treated you since you were running around in Brown/Gold back in Honesdale. Am quite certain you have the chops to raise your girls the right way down in Big D. Get down there quite ofter for work and always enjoy my stay. My three daughters keep me on my toes. I still speak to lots of brown/gold alumns, as we get together sporadically and laugh about days gone by.
