I just wanted to leave a comment to thank you for your articulate response to Lisa Belkin’s piece in The Times this morning. As someone who struggled with infertility for years and was able to get pregnant only with ART and donor eggs, your piece really spoke to me – the feeling of seeing pregnant women and babies everywhere, the feeling of loving, and despising them and this, in particular —

“It is wrenching for women to have bodies that betray them. It is consuming. It affects how you think, how you view yourself, how you see the world.”

I am firmly convinced that the majority of people who oppose ART have never felt the very particular pain of being infertile.

Between people like Liza Mundy (who clearly does not get it, despite offering herself as an authority on the subject) and all of the bad publicity for ART generated by Nadya Suleman, we need more voices like yours out there.

    Thanks, again.

    Hi Pamela,

Funny. I too (like Joanne above) wanted to write to tell you I enjoy your thoughtful responses to Lisa Belkin’s NYT’s blog Motherlode. Today’s subject (Married v. Single Moms) seemed to bring out the worst in people which makes it all the more refreshing to see a more thoughtful, reasoned response.

I’ll look for your comments on the Motherlode.

    With best wishes,
    Lisa

I, too, am a New Yorker living in Dallas. (for 12 years now)
Loved your comment about school start times in today’s nytimes.
Used the cow-milking ref. a few times myself!

Pamela-your writing is extraordinary. It is great to see how life has treated you since you were running around in Brown/Gold back in Honesdale. Am quite certain you have the chops to raise your girls the right way down in Big D. Get down there quite ofter for work and always enjoy my stay. My three daughters keep me on my toes. I still speak to lots of brown/gold alumns, as we get together sporadically and laugh about days gone by.

    Be well
    RW

  8. Hello, Pamela,
I recently saw your piece on Mamapedia “The Price of Gold”. I thought it was stunning. I read everything on your blog, and loved the glimpse of your perspective. You are a great writer, and I admire your career as well. It’s always good to see a smart successful woman and mama out there! I’m a painter (my site is attached) and mother of three who writes as a release-never published. Mamapedia is posting a piece of mine July 16th called “Men Don’t Wear Earrings.” if you happen to check in.
Great work-you seem like an awesome lady!

  9. Just read your piece about divorce-wear on Salon, which I liked a lot. Glad you got your garment groove back.

  10. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like
you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you
can do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than
that, this is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
